With the Poinguinim comunidade earmarking a parcel of land admeasuring 5,000 sqm at Khawat for setting up a garbage treatment plant, local leaders are hoping a proper facility can be set up
At present, the panchayat is collecting waste and taking it to a place near Hathi Paul, near the border of Cotigao wildlife sanctuary for sorting. But villagers are keen that waste management methods are improved and more space is allotted for treating it

Most of the village population is concentrated along the national highway 66, near the market area. Neighbouring villages are also lacking in proper waste management facilities, say villagers
The parcel of land identified for the project is in partly forest land bearing survey no 43/1 and is located away from habitation and there is no opposition to the choice of site
